Brush hair can be divided into two kinds: natural animal hair and synthetic fiber. There are two main characteristics that distinguish one hair from another, as well as natural hair from synthetic fibers.

Synthetic hair brushes are typically used for liquid or cream foundation, concealer, and lip sticks. In contrast to natural hairs, they will become stiffer with use.
Nowadays, there appeared many synthetic hairs which imitate scale of natural hairs, their softness, resilience and ability of catching product are similar to natural hairs. They are widely used for powder brush, blush brush, contour brush, highlighting brush, eyeshadow brush and blending brush.
Natural animal hair has scales that naturally attract and hold powder product, offering excellent product pickup and blending flow. Synthetic fibers are smooth, do not absorb makeup liquids or powders, and are ideal for liquid or cream formulas.
Squirrel hair is highly valued for its supreme softness, making it extremely gentle and perfect for sensitive skin. It provides a soft, natural wash of color and is common in luxury powder, blush, and contour brushes.
Synthetic fiber brushes are commonly used for liquid or cream foundations, concealers, and lipsticks. Modern synthetic fibers can also be textured to mimic natural hair scales for applying powder cosmetics.
Goat hair is the most common natural animal hair because it offers an ideal balance of softness and structural strength, making it versatile for powder, blush, contour, and highlight brushes.
Sable hair has excellent resilience and high color saturation, making it perfect for high-end eyeshadow and lip brushes. Pony hair has less elasticity but is soft, making it suitable for strong color application like heavy eyeshadow blending.
